Lectio Divina: Love and Compassion

Part 1: Inward Focus<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks for taking this time to engage God\u2019s Word prayerfully. Let\u2019s prepare ourselves physically by taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly.\u00a0 Let\u2019s do that 2 more times.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our theme for April is love and compassion. It is important for us to experience God\u2019s Love and Compassion in our own lives so that we can extend it to the youth that we work with. Today, we\u2019ll be reading Lamentations 3:22-24. As I read this Scripture, turn your thoughts quietly toward the Lord, asking him to open your heart to this word.<\/span><\/p>\n

The faithful love of the Lord never ends!<\/span><\/p>\n

His mercies never cease.<\/span><\/p>\n

Great is his faithfulness;<\/span><\/p>\n

his mercies begin afresh each morning.<\/span><\/p>\n

I say to myself, \u201cThe Lord is my inheritance;<\/span><\/p>\n

therefore, I will hope in him!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Does \u201cGreat is his faithfulness\u201d ring true for you?\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Pause<\/p>\n

Do you feel like his mercies begin afresh each morning? If yes, give thanks. If no, talk with him about your feeling.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Part 2: Outward Focus<\/b><\/p>\n

I will reread this passage, as you listen, think of our youth and the world they are growing up in.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The faithful love of the Lord never ends!<\/span><\/p>\n

His mercies never cease.<\/span><\/p>\n

Great is his faithfulness;<\/span><\/p>\n

his mercies begin afresh each morning.<\/span><\/p>\n

therefore, I will hope in him!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Pray for your youth to know the faithfulness of God<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u00a0Pause<\/span><\/p>\n

Pray that your youth will experience God\u2019s mercies afresh each morning.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

How has this exercise changed your perspective today?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Part 3:<\/b> John Wesley\u2019s Covenant Prayer<\/b><\/p>\n

I am no longer my own, but yours.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Put me to what you will, place me with whom you will.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Put me to doing, put me to suffering.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Let me be put to work for you or set aside for you, praised for you or criticized for you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Let me be full, let me be empty.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Let me have all things, let me have nothing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I freely and fully surrender all things To your glory and service.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And now, O wonderful and holy God, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer, You are mine, and I am yours.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So be it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it also be made in heaven.<\/span><\/p>\n
