Lectio Divina: Justice and Righteousness

Part 1: Inward Focus<\/strong><\/p>\n

Welcome. As we begin, I invite you to join me in taking a few deep breaths.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Our theme this month is “Justice and Righteousness.”<\/div>\n
In Isaiah 48:17\u201318, we read:<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“This is what the Lord says\u2014<\/div>\n
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:<\/div>\n
\u2018I am the Lord your God,<\/div>\n
who teaches you what is best for you,<\/div>\n
who directs you in the way you should go.<\/div>\n
If only you had paid attention to my commands,<\/div>\n
your peace would have been like a river,<\/div>\n
your well-being like the waves of the sea.\u2019”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
What thoughts or images does this passage evoke for you?<\/em><\/div>\n

At first, my thoughts were drawn to the Ten Commandments and all of the laws found in the Old Testament.<\/div>\n
It’s difficult to think about these and not focus on all the ways I have come up short.<\/div>\n
On further reflection, I was reminded that Jesus was very clear that there is one great commandment: to love God and to love one another.<\/div>\n

Part 2: Outward Focus<\/b><\/p>\n

As we read the passage again, how does it feel to hear these words \u00a0paying specific attention to the command to love?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“This is what the Lord says\u2014<\/div>\n
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:<\/div>\n
\u2018I am the Lord your God,<\/div>\n
who teaches you what is best for you,<\/div>\n

Are there any specific situations you are facing where love might be the path to peace and well-being?<\/em><\/div>\n

As you consider the young people in your ministry, ask God to draw your attention to someone specific you could show His love to this week. Pray for them now.<\/em><\/div>\n

Part 3: Wesleyan Covenant Prayer<\/b><\/p>\n

As we prepare to leave this time of reflection, we end with this prayer:<\/p>\n


\n<\/span>I am no longer my own, but yours.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Put me to what you will, place me with whom you will.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Put me to doing, put me to suffering.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Let me be put to work for you or set aside for you, praised for you or criticized for you.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Let me be full, let me be empty.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Let me have all things, let me have nothing.<\/span>
\n<\/span>I freely and fully surrender all things to your glory and service.<\/span>
\n<\/span>And now, O wonderful and holy God, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer, You are mine, and I am yours.<\/span>
\n<\/span>So be it.<\/span>
\n<\/span>And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it also be made in heaven.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Amen.<\/span><\/p>\n
