Our theme for this month is the Psalms. The Psalms are <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a \u201ccollection of 150 ancient Hebrew poems, songs, and prayers.\u201d According to the Bible Project, the Big idea of the Psalms is to teach us to \u201cneither ignore our pain nor let it determine our lives. God will fulfill his promises from the Torah and send the Messiah. This book is all about the lament, praise, faith, and hope of God\u2019s people.\u201d (https:\/\/bibleproject.com\/guides\/book-of-psalms\/)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we enter this time of prayer, let\u2019s take a moment to breathe and rest in the presence of God.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, we\u2019ll be reading from<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Psalm 46:1, 2 in the New Living Translation:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God is our refuge and strength,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0always ready to help in times of trouble.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So we will not fear when earthquakes come<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and the mountains crumble into the sea.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Psalm <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brings to mind the Hymn, \u201cA Mighty Fortress is Our God.\u201d This hymn was written by Martin Luther in 1529. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luther believed the fight was not against flesh and blood but against spiritual wickedness in the high places (Ephesians 6:12). The hymn captures this spiritual warfare and the unshakable confidence in Christ\u2019s ultimate victory.\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umcdiscipleship.org\/resources\/history-of-hymns-a-mighty-fortress-is-our-god%20%E2%80%8B%E2%80%8Bhttps:\/\/churchequips.com\/a-mighty-fortress-is-our-god-the-story-behind-the-hymn\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first verse of the hymn echoes the theme of Psalm 46:1 and 2, God being our refuge and help no matter what we face.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA mighty fortress is our God,<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a bulwark never failing;<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">our helper he, amid the flood<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of mortal ills prevailing.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Question:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What troubles are you facing right now? Are you experiencing spiritual attack? As each situation comes to mind, bring it to God your refuge and strength.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pause)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Listen to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Psalm 46:1,2 this time in the NIV:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God is our refuge and strength,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0an ever-present help in trouble.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Question:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How does knowing God is your refuge, strength and ever-present helper, allow you to face these challenges?
