Part 1: Inward Focus<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Good day everyone. My name is Brett Andrews and I serve as the Director of People Development for YFC Canada. I\u2019ve been in YFC for 39 years. It is my privilege to share today\u2019s epray with you.<\/p>\n

This month we are focusing on the theme of \u201cRock Steady\u201d as we anticipate our National Ministry Conference at the end of June in beautiful BC. Today, we are focusing on two verses from 1 Peter 1:6 & 7. Let\u2019s take a moment to pause and breathe deeply before I read the passage. If it helps say this breath prayer as you begin breathing in saying \u201cJesus\u201d and as you breathe out say \u201cyou are my hope!\u201d Do this 3x focusing on the one in whom we hope!<\/p>\n

I\u2019m reading 1 Peter 1:6 & 7<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><\/strong>So be truly glad.[a<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.\u00a07\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold\u2014though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Every Sunday when I gather with my small church we spend time practicing something called The Sacrament of the Ordinary. We open up space for one another to reflect on where they\u2019ve noticed Holy Spirit at work in the ordinary things of life\u2014sometimes things that are very difficult, sometimes things that are obviously praiseworthy and easy to identify. It gives people time to ponder and as we\u2019ve practiced this people have become much more observant and aware of where God has been at work. I wonder if you took some time today to reflect on your past week, how you would notice and acknowledge the work of Jesus in your life\u2014was it in a scripture you read, a song you sang, a conversation you had, something beautiful your eye beheld. It takes practice to see God\u2019s work around us\u2026especially in times of difficulty or sadness. This practice became very meaningful to me this year as I moved through a scary diagnosis, surgery and recovery of Prostate Cancer.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let me read this passage again while you close your eyes and listen\u2026\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

How have you seen or experienced the Holy Spirit at work in your life over this past week or month?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pause<\/p>\n

Is there something that you need to lay before him and ask him to carry for you? What would it look like for God to show you hope in your situation\u2014to give you a resurrection-shaped perspective?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pause<\/p>\n

Is there a young person, colleague, family member or friend who could use some encouragement or someone to be present with them as they look and long for joy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pause<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Take time today and the rest of this week sitting quietly before God in your favourite spot and ask him to reveal to you how he is at work in your life\u2014pour out your heart to him, ask him to make himself obvious and listen expectantly. Some time ago as I sat grieving with a therapist he asked me if I\u2019d seen any evidence of God at work around me. I told him about some strangely encouraging pieces during a horrible season and then he said to me, \u201cDo you realize you\u2019ve just told me about 11 different ways you\u2019ve seen God at work?\u201d May it be true for you as well!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Part 2: Closing Prayer<\/b><\/p>\n

We will close with an ancient prayer for God\u2019s peace and protection as we entrust ourselves into his care.<\/p>\n

O God,
\nfrom whom all holy desires, all good counsels,
\nand all just works do proceed:
\ngive to your servants that peace
\nwhich the world cannot give;
\nthat our hearts may be set to obey your will;
\nand that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
\nmay pass our time in rest and quietness;
\nthrough Jesus Christ our Lord.
\nAmen.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n\n\n
