In the town of Capernaum, along the northern shores of Galilee, Jesus began something extraordinary in the most ordinary of places. In Matthew 4:18\u201322, we see Him walking by the Sea of Galilee, calling Simon Peter and Andrew as they cast their nets into the water. A little farther along, He calls James and John, mending nets with their father. These were not scholars, leaders, or influencers by the world\u2019s standards, they were fishermen. Local workers. Everyday people from the same region, the same community.<\/p>\n

Later, in Matthew 9:9, while Jesus was still in Capernaum, He calls Matthew, a local and likely despised tax collector, to join with the others and follow Him.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s striking how 5 of Jesus\u2019 first disciples came from Capernaum, a small fishing village of around 1,500 people. In looking for disciples to follow Him, live with Him, partner with Him, Jesus did not seek out the most popular or the most powerful. He did not choose to bring in experts from the outside. Rather, Jesus intentionally invited and called ordinary people, right from within their local context.<\/p>\n

God still works the same way today. He invites and calls people like you, and like me, from right where we are, and invites us to partner with Him.<\/p>\n

In your school, your workplace, your church, your community; God invites you to be part of His story. The impact of those first disciples from Capernaum rippled far beyond their village, and far beyond their region of Galilee. Their obedience has echoed into eternity, shaping lives across many nations and many generations. What began with a few \u201cyeses\u201d in their own small town, became a global movement of hope. Today, we are still invited into that very same mission.<\/p>\n

In Winnipeg, Camp Cedarwood, Arborg, Stonewall, Carman, St. Pierre, Niverville and Selkirk, God is calling us to join in with His heart for our local communities and their youth. Whether through volunteering your time, stepping into a staff role, praying for these ministries or giving financially, each response matters. Every \u201cyes\u201d helps create space for local young people to encounter the hope of Christ. None of us need to be extraordinary; we simply need to be willing. Just like those first disciples, your yes, and your influence may begin locally, but God can use it to reach far beyond what we can see. A conversation, a relationship, or a moment of service, can all become part of a story that stretches into eternity.<\/p>\n

Join us in this mission. Be a part of what God is doing here and watch the impact spread.
