Lectio Divina: Begin
With Dana McMahon – Youth for Christ Canada

Lectio Divina: Begin
Date: January 19, 2026
Scripture: Psalms 90:17

Part 1: Inward Focus

Welcome to today’s ePray. I invite you to join me as we pray through and contemplate on scripture. Find a comfortable place and close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, (pause) then out (pause). Let yourself slow down. Invite God into this time of prayer, and ask Him to silence any distractions. Our theme to start the year is Beginning. Let’s take this opportunity to reflect on the year behind us and the year ahead. Today, we’ll be reading from Psalm 90:17.

May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.

As you listen to the following questions and consider your personal life, feel free to pause the recording to talk to God and journal your thoughts.

As I think back over 2025, what was hard?

Pause

Where did I see God at work?

Pause

What am I thankful for?

Pause

What am I trusting God for in 2026?

Part 2: Outward Focus

As we reread this passage, consider the ministry you are part of and the youth that you interact with.

May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.

Where did you see God at work in the lives of the youth in 2025?

Pause

What are the youth you work with trusting God for in 2026?

Pause

How is God inviting you into their lives this year?

Part 3: Wesleyan Covenant Prayer

We will close with an ancient prayer for God’s peace and protection as we entrust ourselves into his care.

O God,
from whom all holy desires, all good counsels,
and all just works do proceed:
give to your servants that peace
which the world cannot give;
that our hearts may be set to obey your will;
and that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
may pass our time in rest and quietness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
