Scripture: Psalms 66:8-9
Ashley Stromenberg
Part 1: Inward Focus
Hi, my name is Ashley and I’ll be leading our devotional today. This month, our theme is resilience. Before we begin, let’s pray together. Lord, quiet my mind, soften my heart, open my ears.
Today we’ll be reading from Psalms 66:8-9. I am going to read it from three translations, the NIV, The Message, and then the New King James Version.
Praise our God, all peoples,
let the sound of his praise be heard;
he has preserved our lives
and kept our feet from slipping.
Bless our God, O peoples!
Give him a thunderous welcome!
Didn’t he set us on the road to life?
Didn’t he keep us out of the ditch?
Oh, bless our God, you peoples!
And make the voice of His praise to be heard,
Who keeps our soul among the living,
And does not allow our feet to be moved.
What word or phrase stood out to you?
Pause
I’ll read them again. Which do you need most today? God to keep you out of a ditch, to prevent your feet from slipping, or to not allow your feet to be moved?
Pause
How are you being invited to let the sound of his praise be heard?

Part 2: Outward Focus
As we reflect on this passage, can you think of one young person in your life who needs to hear this word? Maybe someone who especially needs God’s love and compassion right now?
How can you model God and his love, to help stop someone else’s feet from slipping?
Pause
As I read all three translations of this verse again, consider how this reminder from the Psalms might change your perspective today.
Praise our God, all peoples,
let the sound of his praise be heard;
he has preserved our lives
and kept our feet from slipping.
Part 3: Closing Prayer
We will close with an ancient prayer for God’s peace and protection as we entrust ourselves into his care.
O God,
From whom all holy desires, all good counsel,
And all just works do proceed;
Give to your servants that peace
Which the world cannot give;
That our hearts may be set to obey your will;
And that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
May pass our time in rest and quietness;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
