Part 1: Inward Focus

Hi, my name is Ashley and I’ll be leading our devotional today. This month, our theme is the Psalms. Before we begin, let’s pray together.

Lord, quiet my mind, soften my heart, open my ears.

Today we’ll be reading from Psalms chapter 17, verses 6-8.. I am going to read it from the New Century Version.

I call to you, God, and you answer me.Listen to me now, and hear what I say.Your love is wonderful.

By your power you save those who trust you from their enemies.Protect me as you would protect your own eye.
Hide me under the shadow of your wings.

What are you calling to God with?

Pause

How has he answered you?

Pause

I call to you, God, and you answer me.Listen to me now, and hear what I say.Your love is wonderful.
By your power you save those who trust you from their enemies.Protect me as you would protect your own eye.
Hide me under the shadow of your wings.

Do you feel hidden under his wings?

Part 2: Outward Focus

As we reread this passage, can you think of one young person in your life who needs to hear this word? Someone who especially needs God’s love and compassion right now?

I call to you, God, and you answer me.Listen to me now, and hear what I say.Your love is wonderful.
By your power you save those who trust you from their enemies.Protect me as you would protect your own eye.
Hide me under the shadow of your wings.

How would you encourage someone else with this verse?

Pause

Do you need to encourage your own heart with those same thoughts?

Pause

How does this word change your perspective today?

Pause

I call to you, God, and you answer me.Listen to me now, and hear what I say.Your love is wonderful.
By your power you save those who trust you from their enemies.Protect me as you would protect your own eye.

Part 3: Closing Prayer

We will close with an ancient prayer for God’s peace and protection as we entrust ourselves into His care.

O God,
from whom all holy desires, all good counsels,
and all just works do proceed:
give to your servants that peace
which the world cannot give;
that our hearts may be set to obey your will;
and that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
may pass our time in rest and quietness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
