Lectio Divina: Rooted
With Brenda Hamm – Youth for Christ Steinbach

Lectio Divina: Rooted
Date: April 13, 2026
Scripture: Jeremiah 17:7-8

Jen Hubbard

Part 1: Inward Focus

Welcome. Im Brenda, thanks for joining me in this time of reflection and turning our face to God.
Our Theme for this month is Rooted.
We will begin with a breath prayer. Slowing down and being with God.
Inhale: I trust You, Lord / Exhale: With all my heart (Proverbs 3:5).
Today we will be reading from Jeremiah chapter 17 verse 7&,8

 “But blessed are those who trust in the LORD

and have made the LORD their hope and confidence.

 They are like trees planted along a

riverbank,with roots that reach deep into the water.

Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought.

Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.

Assess your level of trust in God. How do you lean on Him during challenging times?

Pause

Reflect on how you can deepen your spiritual roots through prayer, meditation, and studying scripture.

Pause

Think about how your faith helps you navigate life’s difficulties. What practices keep your spirit vibrant, even in tough seasons?

Part 2: Outward Focus

As I read this passage again, think of one young person in your life who needs to put their hope and confidence in God. Someone who needs to trust in God even though things aren’t great right now.

The idea that these trees “never stop producing fruit” suggests that a strong faith leads to positive outcomes, not just for oneself but also for the community.

Invite youth to consider where they place their hope and confidence, potentially leading them to explore their own faith.

Part 3: Closing Prayer

We will close with an ancient prayer for God’s peace and protection as we entrust ourselves into His care.

O God,
from whom all holy desires, all good counsels,
and all just works do proceed:
give to your servants that peace
which the world cannot give;
that our hearts may be set to obey your will;
and that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
may pass our time in rest and quietness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
