Lectio Divina: Old Testament applied to ministry

Part 1: Inward Focus
Thank you for joining me in this week’s e-pray. This month’s theme is based on the Old Testament related to ministry.
God has promised to restore us not just physically but also spiritually. No matter how messed up our lives feel in the moment, God offers us a fresh start.
As we prepare our heart, mind and soul to receive what God has en-store for us let us settle in. Take a deep breath in saying “Here I am Jesus” and exhale “I am listening”.
Let’s do it again. Inhale “here I am Jesus”. And exhale “I am listening”.
Ezekiel 36: 26-27 NIV
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
God promises to replace a heart of stone with a heart of flesh. Is there an area of your life that has become hard, guarded, or resistant? Invite God into that place now.
Where in your life have you resisted God’s love, guidance, or invitation? What would it look like to receive His Spirit and become more open and responsive to Him?
Part 2: Outward Focus
As I reread this passage, think of a young person in your life that may need to hear this word today. Someone who needs the hope of a promised fresh start and restoration.
Ezekiel 36: 26-27 NIV
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
God promises a new heart and a new spirit. Where does this young person most need God’s renewing work today? Take a moment to pray for them by name.
Pause
God’s Spirit is able to change hearts in ways we never could. Release this young person into God’s care and ask His Spirit to move powerfully in their life.
Pause
Is God bringing to mind a way you can encourage, listen to, or support this young person this week? Sit with that invitation before Him.
Part 2: Closing Prayer
We’ll close with an ancient prayer for our Father’s peace and protection as we entrust ourselves to His care:
O God,
from whom all holy desires, all good counsels,
and all just works do proceed:
give to your servants that peace
which the world cannot give;
that our hearts may be set to obey your will;
and that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
may pass our time in rest and quietness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
