YFC SELKIRK DROP -IN

Firm Foundation

We exist to see every young person living fully in Christ.

Since 1987, the Selkirk Drop-In Centre has been a safe space for teens needing physical, spiritual and social care and support. Approximately 200 youth of various ages come through our doors annually and the drop-in has become a place for them to be fed nutritious meals, feel safe, find friendship, get support, relax, have fun, and hear about a God who loves them. It is a home away from home that has helped thousands of youth over a span of 38 years find hope and purpose.

Fire Destroyed the Drop-in

Tragically, last September, our building had an electrical fire in the kitchen and there was extreme smoke, heat and water damage throughout the building making it unusable for programs and displacing the teens who rely on it.

A TIME TO REBUILD

During the insurance evaluation process a structural engineer came to the conclusion
that our foundation was faulty as well.

In order to rebuild hope and provide a safe space for our young people we need a FIRM FOUNDATION.

So we made the decision that we felt would be the best investment for the future of our ministry,
which is to remove our 80 year old building and create a new building in the same location with a new foundation.

Rebuilding Our YFC Selkirk Ministry Center

THE GOAL: $1.6 MILLION

THE TOTAL COST OF THE NEW BUILDING IS 1.6M. WE CURRENTLY HAVE $400,000 RAISED SO WE ARE LOOKING TO OUR STAKEHOLDERS TO HELP IN RAISING THE FINAL 1.2 M TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT.

The Project > The Impact

REBUILD AND EXPAND OUR BUILDING’S FOOTPRINT

Going from 2300 Sq Ft to 3200 Sq Ft. An increase of 900 sq ft will allow us to do more activities and accommodate many more youth!

INCREASE SEATING CAPACITY

Our new space will be able to seat 40 people comfortably and will feature a much larger counter-top (which we used a lot!) So much of what we do involves food, this is effectively doubling the seating capacity of our lunch program and dedicated counter seating allow for better engagement with staff.

UNIVERSAL WASHROOMS

One universal washroom with 3 unisex toilet rooms. This important addition will allow for increased supervision, provide more privacy, and better accessibility.

EXPANDED KITCHEN & COUNTER

More kitchen space for cooking and food preparation, and a large counter to facilitate serving and conversations.

WINDOWS AND PATIO

Increasing the number of windows and a new patio area with an overhang. Our updated exterior will allow the Selkirk community a glimpse into what we have to offer will make it much more inviting and appealing to newcomers!
