YFC Canada
Do you have a passion for working with youth in a faith-based organization, hosting groups, helping with maintenance and various duties around our Camp facility? We want to connect with you!
Cedarwood, a ministry of YFC, is wrapping up it’s fun and full summer season. However, the ministry is not over! We are preparing for our retreat season beginning in September and we need your help! As we prepare for this season, we are in significant need of volunteers to join our team.
We are looking for compassionate and hospitable individuals to come and host the retreat groups that utilize Cedarwood during the year. Hosting a group includes presenting the group with rules and instructions for their stay, basic housekeeping, answering questions and dining hall preparations. Hosts are able to use their time at Cedarwood to practice the gift of hospitality and find opportunities to connect and pray for the group. We are looking for volunteers for both during the week (Wednesday-Friday) and weekends (Friday-Sunday).
What does the volunteer application process look like?
Our volunteer application process for Cedarwood goes through our YFC Winnipeg administrative office.
Once your background checks and all onboarding procedures are completed, we provide orientation and training according to your placement so you can feel confident in your role. If applicable, YFC Winnipeg also offers training opportunities such as ASIST, SafeTalk, and Commit to Kids for our volunteers (depending on the requirements of your placement).
What qualifications does a YFC Winnipeg / Cedarwood Volunteer need to have?
To love God and love youth! Once you have filled out an online application and a potential placement is found, you will need to come in for an interview. Volunteer placement is dependent on the program needs, the interview, the background checks, policy signatures, references, and applicable training.
Is there a specific time commitment?
Each role has a specific desired time commitment for their volunteers. It might look like helping with a group retreat, a week or two of summer camp or other short term or longer term projects. Many of our volunteers stick around for years!
How will I know what to do when I volunteer?
You will receive guidance and training from Cedarwood Staff. YFC Volunteer Services also provides in-person and online training including an orientation if appropriate. ASIST or Safe Talk and Commit to Kids are required for our leadership volunteers.
What if I want to volunteer behind the scenes or with something that is not specifically mentioned in your program volunteer needs?
We have many areas available for support volunteers including helping out with kitchen, cooking and baking activities, maintenance, cleaning, office help, and much more! And we are always open to hearing about unique ways to serve at Cedarwood Camp & Retreat Centre, so feel free to email us with any ideas or questions you might have!
