“Before I used to feel lonely, but the YFC’s Taekwondo training school has become my home”
Jhonny Cusme is an 11-year-old preteen who lives with his father on a borrowed piece of land in the Flor de Bastión sector of Ecuador, in a bamboo house with a zinc roof his father built. Jhonny has no close relatives other than his father. His father works most of the time doing deliveries on a motorcycle, and as a result of diabetes and losing his vision, his father has had several accidents. Leaving this job is not an option as this is his only source of income.
Jhonny’s father was worried because Jhonny spent a lot of time alone or hanging out with friends that were not the best influence. Several months ago his father came to ask for information about the YFC Taekwondo Training School. At that time Jhonny and his father did not know Jesus, but thanks to the fact that Jhonny’s father made the decision to enroll his son in school, their lives have changed since they met God.
He says, “Before I used to feel lonely, but the YFC’s Taekwondo training school has become my home.” His teacher comments that Jhonny has changed his character through the word of God. Johnny loves the spiritual formation that is taught in the Taekwondo training school and is becoming a great young man. His teacher says that Jhonny’s father always asks her to look after his son so he isn’t alone in case something happens to him one day, but Jhonny now knows that he is not alone and that he has a family and brothers in Christ. Now, several months later, Jhonny and his father faithfully attend the church where the Taekwondo Training School is located. Jhonny now belongs to the church theater group and loves going to church.
Thank you for your support of YFC Canada as we partner with other YFC Nations around the world seeing the hope and potential in every young person.
