Greater Moncton

Greater Moncton is a growing and diverse community in southeastern New Brunswick, bringing together Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview, and surrounding communities. More than 170,000 people call the Greater Moncton area home, including families and newcomers from many different cultures.

The Hub City

Known as the Hub City, Moncton has long been a central transportation, distribution, and economic hub for the Maritime provinces. Its strategic location connects the region to Fredericton, Saint John, Charlottetown, and Halifax, making Moncton an important place for people, businesses, and communities across Atlantic Canada.

Moncton is also Canada’s first officially bilingual city, where English and French are part of everyday life.

Strong Growth

Greater Moncton is one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada, welcoming new families and newcomers from around the world.

  • 5.4% population growth in 2022—the highest growth rate among Canadian metropolitan areas.
  • 87% of population growth between 2016 and 2021 was attributed to immigrants and non-permanent residents.

This growth is changing the community and creating new opportunities to connect with young people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

A Generation in Need

The youth of New Brunswick, and especially in the Greater Moncton area
are facing a deep crisis that is not only social and emotional, but also spiritual.
  • 1 in 3 youth needed to talk to someone about a mental or emotional problem.
  • 44% of youth in the Moncton and Southeast area reported symptoms of anxiety or depression.
  • 21% of New Brunswick youth reported using one or more substances.
  • 24.1% of students in the Moncton and Southeast area identify as immigrants, newcomers or refugees.
