Anxiety Helpsheet
Are you stressed to the point where you feel you can’t function normally? You are not alone. 20% of youth say they experience this kind of stress. Stress is a natural part of life, but action needs to be taken if it gets to this point. Anxiety often develops in one area of life, and then can become present all the time. Anxiety doesn’t have to rule your life. Tell Jesus what’s on your heart and ask Him to bring peace to the situation. Anxiety stems from concerns about the future. It is important to remember to live in the present. When you feel yourself getting anxious try these coping skills: 1. Breathe slowly, deeply and repeatedly 2. Think of a topic and begin listing things in that category 3. Start at your toes and tense then release each muscle, moving all the way up to your forehead (notice the feeling of release each time). For anxiety centered around an activity try to break it into small pieces, and then reward yourself for your achievement. Anxiety does not define who you are, rather it is a part of your journey, one that Jesus wants to walk beside you on.
