Depression Helpsheet
Depression is a very real thing. A recent survey showed that 52% of youth felt so sad, discouraged, or hopeless to the point where nothing felt worthwhile. If you think someone you know or even yourself might be struggling with depression look out for the signs. Irritability, aggression, and rage along with apathy, physical pain, avoidance, guilt, and/or fatigue can be indicators of depression. It is important to seek support through family and friends, and also medical services. Text “connect” to 686868 for a 24-hour helpline. If your friend is going through depression try and suggest they create a good schedule for themselves, where they have regular bedtimes, healthy eating, and daily exercise. Be ready to listen and show support. Bring good distractions to your friend, and be the light in their life! Help them find a community that will support them and provide them a sense of purpose. Lastly remind them that in Jesus we can find hope for tomorrow. It will get better.
