The comparison that takes place on social media detrimental to the wellbeing of someone who is struggling with loneliness. Social media is a continuous highlight reel, and not a proper representative of peoples lives. There are many ways to combat the effects of loneliness, in hopes of one day erasing all traces of it in people. If you know someone who is struggling with loneliness invite them out. Even if they decline they will know that they were wanted and will be missed. Show them that you see and care for them. The process of giving with your time can also work wonders. Giving releases oxytocin, which helps with feelings of attachment. Connect with someone else who is lonely. Try and surround yourself with people who will lift your spirit. It is important to find ways to cope with your loneliness. Try new things like drawing, building, listening to music, prayer journaling, and going for walk. These are great ways for you to distract yourself with all that’s on your mind, and to bring it to Jesus. Psalms 34:18 says that God is “near the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit”. Take hope in that truth.
