Landscape for Change

Location: Winnipeg
Year of Completion: 2023
Project Cost:$1,300,000

Thank you to everyone who helped make our dream a reality, we are incredibly grateful for your partnership in reaching our fundraising goal. We are very happy with how it turned out and are truly hopeful that this new space will help make our building and neighbourhood a more welcoming place for years to come.

Youth for Christ is centrally located at Higgins and Main Street, and many youth in this area live in poverty or are at risk of homelessness and ultimately become targets for gangs, prostitution and the drug trade. They are tempted by perpetrators with the promise of a better lifestyle and offered a way out by participating in one or more of these unhealthy activities. Many get trapped in this cycle of poverty and addiction. These youth need the hope Jesus offers!

The goal of our campaign was to open the area in front of the YFC building up with a beautification project that will enhance the area and make it more appealing to the community at large. The project has expanded much needed parking space for staff and volunteers and created a much safer environment outside for youth using the facility.  In order to do this we purchased and re-developed a neighbouring property, previously 221 Higgins Ave.

The space now includes better lighting and upgraded security cameras, providing much needed improvements in visibility and safety. The project included new signage and an added access point off of Higgins Avenue with a drop off loop for parents and buses to use that we hope will encourage more youth and families to explore our facility and access the programming being offered, getting them involved in safe, healthy activities.

We exist to help every young person coming through our doors to find the hope and potential they have in Jesus! We believe if we can journey with them through their challenging teenage years, and equip them with the resources, support, and tools they need, more of our young people will grow into healthy, capable adults.
