Thank you so much for your service!

What to Expect as a YFC Volunteer

YFC is dependent on volunteers who are able to build relationships and strong connections with youth.

What qualifications does a YFC Volunteer need to have?

To love God and love youth! Once you have filled out an online application and a potential placement is found, you will need to come in for an interview. Volunteer placement is dependent on the program needs, the interview, the background checks, policy signatures, references, and applicable training.

Is there a specific time commitment?

Each ministry has a specific desired time commitment for their volunteer base. It is advisable that you commit to volunteering for the full term of that ministry, whether it is for a summer term or a school year. Many of our volunteers stick around for years! Consistent time commitment allows you to be able to connect regularly with the youth. Some ministries may be able to accommodate those who work shiftwork in the evenings.

How will I know what to do when I volunteer?

You will receive guidance and training from YFC Staff and in particular, your supervisor of the program in which you will volunteer. YFC Volunteer Services also provides in-person and online training including an orientation. ASIST or Safe Talk and Commit to Kids are required for our leadership volunteers.

What if I want to volunteer behind the scenes or with something that is not specifically mentioned in your program volunteer needs?

We have many areas available for support volunteers including helping out with kitchen, cooking and baking activities, maintenance, cleaning, office help, sewing costumes, and much more! We also have an important ministry role which is driving students to and from the Youth Centre and other locations. We have YFC vehicles available for this purpose. And we are always open to hearing about unique ways to serve YFC Winnipeg so feel free to email us with any ideas or questions you might have, using the contact links above!

Through the teaching and hands on learning with youth, you are given the opportunity build relationships with these youth and to share the Gospel of Christ. Film and media are two of the fastest growing interests of youth from all backgrounds, so don’t miss out on this exciting new opportunity.

YFC Soccer

Soccer is one of the most participated-in sports in the world. In Winnipeg the amount of people wanting to play indoor winter soccer far exceeds the amount of available facility space. We carry out winter and summer seasons of soccer in order to make long term relationships with teenagers far more effective.

YFC Ball Hockey

Our greatest need in this program is for mentors to build relationships with a team of 5 boys while playing floor hockey with them on a weekly basis. The mentor provides transportation to and from games, is in contact with each team member weekly and looks for ways to deepen their relationship with each boy on the team.

The Rig Fitness Centre

Through Ninja Warrior, Parkour, Cross Training, Weightlifting, Powerlifting, and Kettle Bells young people are encouraged to set and reach new fitness goals, and given opportunities to make positive choices in their lives. We are Winnipeg’s only youth focused gym…open specifically for anyone aged 12-18.

The Rock: Climbing Gym

Looking for a climbing challenge? Our energetic volunteers will test the limits of your physical stamina and challenge you to develop your inner strength. Try climbing, rappelling and bouldering in our all-season facility, and then head out to face real rock cliffs on outdoor excursions. Come see how challenging climbs are showing teens how to live a meaningful life.

The Edge Skatepark

Skateboarding is more than an activity for those that love it – it’s a lifestyle. If you love skateboarding this may be the perfect place for you to help out. We need volunteers that are excited to care about others, while doing what we all love – SKATEBOARDING!

Young Parents

Our Young Parents program offers support groups and mentoring.  Volunteers are needed to serve as mentors in the support groups and to provide babysitting.

Work Force

Work Force is an employment program in Winnipeg’s North End, primarily serving undervalued youth in the William Whyte community. Often our youth do not know how to get or keep a job and don’t believe that they really will be able to work one day.  We are trying to break the generational cycle of dependency on the welfare system as well as journey with them to discover the God who loves them and has a future and a hope for them.  For a complete listing of opportunities, visit the Work Force website.
