YFC Canada
Greeta first joined the YFC Winnipeg team as a volunteer before answering God’s call to join the staff.
Her journey to get here is a long and miraculous one. Born in Burma, and raised in a refugee camp, Greeta came to Canada as a government sponsored refugee with her mother and five siblings when she just 12 years old. When Greeta was just 15, her mother remarried and moved away, so Greeta and her sister rented an apartment on their own. Feeling lonely and abandoned, Greeta would go out partying most weekends to try to make friends and feel less lonely. By the time she was 17, however, she was struggling to find a reason to live. One night, while contemplating ending her own life, she cried out to God in desperation.
“God, if you are real, I want to see you,” she said, “and if you’re not, I may end my life.” Then, Greeta says she saw Jesus, and he said “Daughter, I am here.” Having grown up without a father, Greeta was overwhelmed to know she had a Father in Heaven! That weekend, instead of going out to party, Greeta got baptized!
Three years later Greeta was happily married, and feeling God’s call on her life to serve. She attended Missionfest Manitoba, and met Therese Gerhard (YFC Winnipeg’s Director of Volunteer Services) at the Youth for Christ booth. The rest is, as they say, history!
